2020 - Wigston Angling Society Colmic sponsored series - Round 3 - February 23rd

Round 3 of the COLMIC sponsored series and the Manor restaurant was buzzing and breakfasts were flying out the kitchen  ( Brekkie was awesome) . This time we were fishing the canal as the river section was not safe so the Wigston acted responsibly for a switch . Even though the weather reports were of strong winds and showers there was 30 turned up for this match.

The match was a grueller  as the recent concerns about the form of the canal were realised as this section in last two years had produced weights in the 4-10lb region . Today it was a case of getting a bonus and three in the section took Bream which gave a 1-2-3 in the match . I took a 4th with two large Perch and no bonus Perch .

2020 - Wigston Angling Society Colmic sponsored series - Round 2 - February 9th

Round 2 of the COLMIC sponsored league excellently run by the WIGSTON AC was again on the canalised section of the river Soar . The weather predictions caused many anglers to cancel this match but 23 hardy souls said ; 'Lets give it a go' !  I drew peg 43 the furthest section into Leicester and again i was drawn next to Top Colmic angler from Soar Tackle , Chris Close.
I never took my pole at the bag as the winds and rain were biblical and to achieve proper control of the float was very difficult with the possibility of pole breakages in mind it was nervous fishing .

It looks rather calm , it was the calm before the storm !

No catch pictures as everyone had been sodden by the most horrendous monsoon rain i have ever experienced . At one point i could not see Chris to my left such was the wall of rain coming down .

When the match was finished and the weighing in complete we ended up back at the car park where we all diverted around fallen branches - luckily none of the cars were hit !

The days winner was Pete Wootton 6-8 with Kev Wooley 2nd on 6-4 , John Brock 4-11.

2020 - Wigston Angling Society Colmic sponsored series - Round 1 - January 26th

After a great breakfast at the Manor Restaurant , Glen Parva the draw was made and some 40 anglers were in for this one , the first of a 6 match series . The river was chosen as an alternative to the Canal which is normally fished however recent results have seen poor returns . The WAS have contacted the authorities for advice on this matter but it appears there are many canals in similar situations - as the year progresses expect a return to form .



The days top rod was COLMIC WIGSTON AC Tom Pringle with a tremendous catch of 33lb , 10 or 11 Bream ?

Peg 10 was mine and after a 150 yards walk i was 3 pegs past the Middleton street bridge .

Bob Ashford was to my right on peg 9 . On peg 8 was Mr.Hodghill who had the misfortune of an elderly gentleman break his no4 section trying to step over the pole. He was asked politely to wait until he shipped out but that fell on deaf ears - minus one no4 section , not the best of starts, the guy thought it was made our metal was his comment !!!

The day sped by when you dont catch or even get a bite - i must have tried everything and added further rigs . Got first fish in start of last hour and adde 2 more , all Perch , just ounces . Put back and enjoyed watching Bob to my right land 2 exceptional Bream .

2019 - MAS day out at HACKETTS small pool

Dave Allen organised a match over in Robin Hood land right next to Holm Pierpoint at a private water called Hacketts Pools , we fished the smaller one of the two pools .
When arriving after a great breakfast at the cafe on Daleside Road it was clear the rains over the last few months had taken its toll on the fields with many still holding a saturation of water . The movement from the cars to the pegs was short yet ultra slippy , but we made it as nobody decided a trolley option due to the ground condition .

Me on Peg 1 , Mick Peg 2 , Steve on Peg 3 and Dave on Peg 4 . Fished 09:30- 14:30

Incredible water with so many species , today we had : roach , rudd , dace , gudgeon , skimmer , Perch , Ruffe .

We had a wind all day from the left so 11/13m fishing was tough . Eventually i went from 11m to top 3 and top 4 fishing in about 3 feet of water . Talking with Dave we could have another match on there later in the spring next time on the larger pool . In the summer they have weights on waggler up to 100lb in Summer of Roach and bream/skimmers ! This has to be on the list !
