2009 september Mawgan Porth fisheries and Gwinear pool, Cornwall

Great week in U.K. at Cornwalls fisheries.

Started fishing the Sunday at Gwinear and finished 2nd on the bottom pool but no where in the match . On the Monday i practised at Mawgan Porth on peg 14 and sat in a 'club-match' without being in the match for money just the practice and came 1st with 252-05LB with weights of 158LB and 138LB behind me.

On the Tuesday i fished MP on peg 6 and finished disappointingly second to peg 5 by 1.5lb !!!. I had 187-15 and peg 5 had 189-2.

On Wednesday i fished MP on un-fancied peg 44 and to my left i had MP top-blokes : Harry Billing and Stu Lister on pegs 46 and 45 respectively. I did'nt think i did so good but when the fish started to be weighed in with weights of ; 154 ,158 ,172 , i thought maybe i might have 160-ish.......so then it was my turn and i weighed 201-12 LB !!!.....awesome but we still had Harry Billing to weigh and for a change he became third to me with 176-00.
Stu did'nt weigh (gave us all a chance as he's had several 200-300 weights already this year) in and the remaining weights were not close.
It was great to meet up with Harry and Stu and all the other local 'cracks' on the Cornwall circuit. English fishing is so friendly i miss it so badly when i'm in Sweden

Gwinear Pools new layout - the hill as gone and you can see all 3 new pools from the car park

Andy Dare and Chris Heacock now run the water - and they supply the keepnets
TYPICAL LAYOUT FOR ME WHEN FISHING MAWGAN PORTH

  1. Minimum 4 setups using PRESTON short/stops , they are shorter and not as long as standard tops. In this shot i have no long pole setup i only have short 4\s for extending out a little and when i need to land a bigger fish.

  2. In this picture i had 6 tops ready all with short piece of Preston Purple elastic .

  3. All rigs were the same all set up with Mick Wilkinson margin Pellet floats straight thro on 0.17 Preston line to a 14 or 16 hook , like to vary single and double caster.

  4. Left tray simple casters ,discorgers......snack bars and drink

  5. Choose best side to position the keepnets and keep the area clear as the fish come upto the boards.

  6. Keep spare bait behind you and if you tangle just pick up another top. Landing net pole is short because your fishing with tightened short elastic so you are trying to stop the fish surging out your peg. You hit and hold if it comes off you will get another fish almost straight the way.

  7. dont drink so much !!....means you must piss and that can cost you several fish......  ha-ha

At last i manage to beat the legend Harry Billing and the other legend Stu Lister - both are fantastic anglers who consistently win alot of matches and are easily recognised as the men to beat when fishing the Whiteacres festivals - It was an honour to have fished against them

i had 3 nets in the water and it took 6 weigh-ins

Yes ! - what a great day from an un-fancied peg !
