With the possibility of calling the match off on April 27-28th due to exceptional high river level we decided to view the venue and see for ourselves if this match is to go ahead .
When arriving there i could see straight the way the colour was really good and not chocolate colour as i was worried about . However there was a good pace on the river and i estimated you would need 25gr flat float minimum based on todays viewing . Actually I would think 30/35/50gr would really hold steady but that is just my opinion however with the river level dropping over the next 10 days then i expect a smaller weight flat float would be okay .
It looks perfect Pole feeder time to be honest and i must try this out today , which i did , so i drove to the other side of the river to set up which was more comfortable with the icy cold wind on my back .
Plenty of locals boats moored up.
Colour is perfect
Looking downstream from approx. Peg 3-4 ish
Not sure how successful they were or have they not gone after them yet ?
On the Boards
The opposite side is really comfortable with wind on my back and certainly enough room for some 5/6 positions
Decided to set up a couple of pole feeder rigs
with also a 15gr EXNER Butterfly
Preferred the pole feeder as it sat well
Started to get a few bites after an initial bombardment of GB/SOIL/LEAM with corn maggot in the balls.
Roach were the main fish to be caught and they were very chunky and big .
After about 7-8 Roach a Small hybrid/Bjorkna decided to join us
So i spent 2.5 hours there and and about 1.5 hrs fishing time and i estimate about just under 3 kilos
According to the long range weather forecast the weather should be cool , little showery rain but no monsoon rains days so its safe to expect the river level will start to lower over the next 10 days (we hope !)
