2023 - SOAR VALLEY WINTER LEAGUE NO5 - MICK CARR PEG59 AT SUTTON

Twas Sunday19th November and i have drawn Peg 59 at Sutton conveniently with the shortest walk from the lane . It is a peg i have fished before and know it reasonably well however there is extra water on so i need to take assessments to the depth to make sure my rigs are spot on .

I have setup two pole feeder rigs for different positions ? Also i have a stick float rod and a whip but hope not to use them as my fish target is for the Pole feeder fishing.

Previously to my arrival at the peg 59 the Barrow Town FC club was filled with expectancy as the teams met for the draw.

Roger giving his masterful advise

Raygill's captain 'Bigus Dickus' upto the draw table brilliantly run buy Lee Wright and England Coach Darren Bickerton both of the Starlets team.

Back to my peg details as to my left was the ubiquitous Pennywort which was slowing the flow a little but my concentration area was elsewhere ?

The River still a good chocolate colour - how will it fish ?

The match went to my tactical plan and i was rewarded with winning the Sutton section as well as the whole of the River participants and the whole match inclusive of the canal.
My thoughts and tactics are contained in the film below.

The scales dont lie and my satisfaction was complete with over 7 kilos of quality fish.

Bronze Soar beauties

The Bream Master of Sutton today and i am so pleased having worked hard on improving my fishing, rigs and tactics .

Back to the HQ and it was time for the rewards and applause

I thank all SVWL anglers for their congratulations they have given me as its truly been a day of days for myself which i will never forget . The SVWL is truly the best WL in the country with the best organisers and best anglers .

See you next Sunday - all the best wishes .......Mick

2023 - November 11th Sodertalje canal - small match amongst friends

Sodertalje canal Slider/feeder match organised by Mats Larsson and just the five decided to join the meeting but they are all of the finest anglers ( myself excluded )😂

Mats proceeded to place 5 of the pegs that actually have been used a lot this year by myself and locals.

Important for me and my fellow countrymen and all the allies of the world is ...........

Peg 1 is Tom Ostland (Just sorting his distances near his car)

Peg 2 Mats Larsson (organiser of the day's event )

Peg 3 is myself (Looking good but will i do well ?)

Peg 4 is HÃ¥kan (Great to have a top feeder guy on the event )

Peg 5 is Borko ( Very well liked and respected Serbian guy )

The guys conferring before the start

What a lovely day - hope the fishing is just as good ?

Mats and Tom to my left doing rather well

Hakan and Borko doing equally well

Borko hardly caught in first 2 hours then last 2 hours bagged up for 2950

HÃ¥kan the Days winner with 4646

Mats with 2nd place and 3795

TomÖ with 3489 and showing his specimen Bream

Match over it was good to talk with the guys and also the way it fished using feeder gave hope that we could run a 2 day feeder competition there as the venue was okay for parking and a concrete walkway for any trolley movement . However at least 10 pegs would be okay to walk the gear too and the rest have a short walk by trolley (100 metres at most)
Having spoken with HÃ¥kan and TomÖ and Mats then it could be really good to include this fixture in next years planning .
Further discussion about the 2024 fixtures would be so good to have (maybe a TEAMS meeting ?) so that all fixtures whether it be qualifiers , Opens , DM's, SM'S can be helped to have the best attendance without duplicating on some days where possible thus allowing the Swedish Tackle trade to respond and plan for ? Just my suggestion , let me know your thoughts ?

SLIDER FISHING (at 7-8m deep and 30-35m out) - HELP , thoughts required ????

I had a tangle a few times yet i thought i was casting high with a smooth action and i was never sure if to sink line first with bailarm on then open it and allow the line to go out . OR , just sink the line and allow the float to settle ? Not sure what was best however i did tangle a few times and after the match i found out that Tom and Mats had the occasional trouble. I just wonder if choice of float size could be the problem plus the depth we fished in ? I use EXNER Carbon Magic Slider 16gr (2+14gr) and i know that Tom and Mats had similar . So i wonder why so many tangles as all three of us are quite reasonable slider anglers ? Now i noticed that Mats and Toms weights consisted of a single ball weight with 4 small locking shot just after then a small bulk of dropper shot about a metre later so similar to what i had .But i had double ball weight locked either side by line stops , was that correct ?

Now some BAD NEWS ...........Litter ! .............😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

This canal is my local and i enjoy the friendship of the local people who pass by and often talk with me so i kind of think it as my stretch of canal and i take pride in its appearance , However, there have been many mornings that i find the local scum have abused the scenery with their litter and today it was the case again...........dam scum people !

2023 - November 5th at Nyköping near to the road Bridge

Just recently i felt the need to get out for some fresh air and fish a little . Unfortunately since losing my work end of August it has been difficult to secure further work however i have many contacts and hope to secure work quite soon with my new (own) company; 'MSD EE AB'

Last year almost to the day i fished this area and had a huge catch of fish up to 40 kilos , it was insane fishing 4-5m of water but catching in the top 2metres ........ with plenty of 200gr to 750gr fish like Ide , Roach , Bjorkna and skimmer ...........how will it fish today ? It was 2 weeks ago i fished here for just  one Ruffe!!!! (i believe the Baltic sea was under climatic pressure pushing salt into the area thus putting off the fish , so i understand ?

I started the day with a Top 7 on pole feeder and i had a EXNER DELTA flat float 8gr on a Top 7 (later changed to a EXNER ELIASZ 4gr for a bit more sensitivity as the speed of the river did not warrant a flat float of that weight.

I started on Pole feeder firmly and first time in i pulled out after a couple of minutes to find a small roach hanging on , good sign !

Met a nice guy there chatting about fishing in general in Sweden.

I changed to the float and caught quite well however the form was patchy but with the river showing quite brown water it was clear the fish were not settled .

Pole feeder with MATRIX SLIK 8-10 Green elastic in pole with no.5 PRESTON Slip below using a Red EXNER tip as a indicator.

Ended the day with 21 fish (20 of which were Roach) plus one Bjorkna

All returned safely and no sore necks ! - everyone a swimmer !
