2011 - GREENHILL ANGLING CLUB YEARS - part 1

IN 1975 THE GREENHILL ANGLING CLUB WAS FORMED BY SEVERAL ANGLERS AND IN 1976 I JOINED THE CLUB AND ONTO THE COMMITTEE IN 1977. THE CLUB STARTED OF WITH ABOUT 23 ANGLERS ON ITS CONCEPTION AND THAT GREW TO SOME 340 , I BELIEVE AT THE START OF THE 90'S !.
THE CLUB STARTED OF RENTING THE RIVER SOAR AT ROTHLEY AND THE CLUB WOULD ENJOY SOME 10 MATCHES A YEAR ON IT.LATER ON THE CLUB ACQUIRED OTHER STRETCHES OF RIVERS AND RENTED A FEW LAKES WHEN THE POPULARITY OF CARP STARTED IN THE LATES 70'S.
I SERVED ON THE COMMITTEE FOR SOME 18 YEARS TAKING UP POSITION AS SECRETARY ,MATCH SECRETARY AND ORDINARY COMMITTEE MEMBER PLUS ALSO RUNNING THE JUNIOR CLUB FOR 3 YEARS AND HAVING 64 JUNIORS UNDER MY CONTROL AND HAVING SELL-OUT JUNIOR MATCHES OF 21 PEGS A TIME OVER 6 MATCHES !

THE FOLLOWING PICTURES ARE A RECORD OF SOME MATCHES HELD AT THE RIVER SOAR AT ROTHLEY , THURLASTON LAKE AND DAYS ON THE TRENT BY SEVERAL GAC ANGLERS.

I remember who my face fell the first time I saw a 9 whip, when purchasing a 7 whip I was in heaven about 10 years old.

The first matchrod (Daiwa) with about 400 rings was even over my bed with a ABU 506 or 505 reel.

Wow some old faces here. I remember Mick Stretton used to come round to our house & mum had to e plain why a pnda car kept on appearing outside our house. Thinking about stating fishing again after 34 years away, looking at videos on YouTube things have changed A LOT these days it's a different language, can't work out what they are saying half the time. How do I join club now.
