It was thought a good idea to run this match two weeks before a SM qualifier so to give the competitors a chance to get some good practice in. This years team SM was a huge success and we believe the match fraternity would like more of a good thing !?

The 2024 matches every year include the Varnan Open which traditionally fished on May 1st . Weights are not massive as its a fine tackle match on a sluggish back water canal so good technical fishing is needed ?

2024 - Matches of the year (backed by METMASK) - Hjalmere Canal , July 6-7th, August 10-11th

 The 2024 matches at Hjalmere Canal will be July 6th and 7th and August 10th and 11th. Good weights expected so therefore it could be possible to run more matches ? 

The match is normally conducted as any method using feeder, waggler, whip and pole however last couple of matches as seen the feeder start to dominate proceedings with some good mixed weights of Tench 1-3 kilos , Rudd to 1.5 kilos , many good size skimmers (100-600gr) and Bjorkna (100-600gr). Larger Bream have been slightly absent for a couple of years .

NEW POSSIBLE MATCH LENGTH ? 

It was in 2023 that i discovered another section of the canal about 1km further inland from the usual stretch and this could accommodate at least 12 pegs and more, so there are possibilities to expand the matches.

There could also be a good possibility of fishing parts of the canal at the 'CAFE' ? However with boat traffic and mooring of boats it needs to be investigated further however it could make a for a good September competition ?
