2021 - September 19th Hammarby Canal - DM3

The last match in the DM series took place on the deep canal at Hammarby which is a first for me but i have fished similar at Liljeholmen some 13 years ago or more . The section of canal is ideal for the box and placement of the tackle but it can feel quite eery looking down from the step to the water surface by about 2.5 metres . The fishing depths were about 6 to 7m and you needed at least 7.5m whip to tackle this water. At the start of the day some of the anglers were setting up slider and the odd feeder rod , will they play a part of the days proceedings , we shall see .

This excellent series has been well constructed and managed by Björn Widerberg and his helpers who i have met for the first time since my return from the UK . It is well apparent that angling is alive and kicking in Sweden and its days like these that you hope for more matches for next year as todays was the last in the series . So refreshing to have this kind of fishing instead of still seeing the old fashioned Trad-Mete occasionally being ran .

I was first to show in the morning and parked to view the match length

I hardly saw any litter which shows respect for the area however there was some cigarette butts near some of the seating areas

The view looking down the match length on the steps

Now what is or was used for ?

As the guys and girls started to set up the gear the rain came .Weather forecast stated dry all day ?

My layout for the day

 Roach ground bait it is

The match started with the usual bombardment of pre-feed which lasts 10 minutes then the four hours of fishing starts . The first 15 minutes off fish were being swung to hand and the momentum of strike-hook-lift-swing-hand was soon evident as 2-10oz roach started to appear. It was evident i was missing a good whip but i persisted with my SENSAS Valencia and TRIANA FX449 however i made the mistake of going there and not taking the extra sections with me to get a more balanced fishing .
It was not till the last hour when i started to feed corn heavily i was rewarded with a good run of big roach but then the four hours was up , another hour i could have added more but so could the rest of the guys .
Next year if we fish these deep canals again i shall make investment into a couple of light but strong whips and i think i might go for the pole versions of put-over .

The weigh-in commenced straight the way and after my 9350 on peg 1 , then 'Kung' Tom on Peg 2 hauled up a staggering 17680 - he was a machine with that BROWNING Black Magic (Why did i not keep mine dohhhhh!)
