2015 - September 7th - Abbey section of the Loughborough SAS

Practice day on the Abbey section of the Loughborough AS.

I chose peg 3 and it looked to be the most accessible as My friend , Mick and i walked the whole field and agreed the other 9 pegs will need quite a lot of work to get them to a safe and fair level.

The water was really gin clear and the early morning sun gave way to cloudier conditions which suited us both . I started by placing small nuggets of SENSAS 300 lake and Super Black with dead maggot at 3-4 metres and kept the far side free from G/Bait and i only sprayed caster with maggot on the hook but i also sprayed maggot sometimes as the larger Perch were up for the free offerings

Rigs were a MAURIZIO SCHIEPATTI SIRIO 0,5 gr , 0.12/0.10 - ......starting with 18's hook but then onto a 16 . Minnows and small Bleak were a nuisance and best was to use double caster or three maggots which i did when on 16's hook. Average depth was about 5'-6'' .
I had 7 Good Perch 14oz to 1.5lb size and many Dace and Roach of good 4-6oz size that was complimented with a lot of chublettes. I had no larger chub on the day but i was pestered by the Pike at the net and played sword fighting with them all day with my landing net pole.
Mick to my left just fed maggot all day and had some nice Perch but in his 8' deep peg he was prone to Pike Attack and hooked several.
The ground bait close in was a mistake as it attracted many small fish shadowed by Pike so any fish i caught in the G/B free zone became targets when playing in.
If i could fish that again i would have just pinged hemp and caster all day and fished 16 m tight to far bank on worm for any marauding Chub.

One of several hooked by Mick and o owned up to just 2.

long line and 14m pole or 16m pole and tight to far bank

Nice catch be it hard work.

The Abbey will have one section and it requires much work but if you are up for a few hours work then the organisers of the WL welcome you . Brian Hull and the Loughborough fishing club combined with the Bennets of Mountsorrel tackle shop have been organising work parties in recent weeks to get the other sections ready for the start . PLEASE HELP !

2015 - GREENHILL AC - ASHPOLE SPINNEY 30TH AUGUST

Twas a nice start to the day as the sun was minimal but it was cloudy and overcast as the 10 off gathered for the JKS Cup at our Cosby water.

 I peg 10 , again ! ......too my right.

Kitted out to rock and roll

The Big bear to my left on peg 8 is the Kilby Fella

Opposite on peg 23 is Brian Envis who needs no introduction , a right Likely lad !

It fished a little tough as the expected flood of Tench did not materialise

However top rod for the day was Andy with some 23lb

Brian Enis took a 4th with some nice chub

I took 3rd with 14b and 2 good chub but contrived to place another back in the water ......dohhhhh !

Active day but the Tench did not show for me in my hour of need.

John Kilby took a 2nd and very close to the winner

Young Joseph did rather well with a 5th place

2015 - SENSAS SOAR MASTERS N0.5

If only , if only , how many times have i said that this year ? Yet again i should have continued catching fish just out of their egg sacks for 5 hours instead of 3.5 hours . But you have to go for Billys as a few good samples will win a section , Tench also ! i try not to look at the statistics but when my peg draw has been pretty bad for sometime then a 'pressure' takes over .

For my trouble i drew scales yet again (3rd time ) .....peg 51 was my destination , not bad and quite pleased.

To my left is Ross Winfield

To my Right is World Champion Roger Marlow

I was a bit rushed as the starting time was now 10:30 from 11:00

SENSAS GILLES 0.8GR

MAURAZIO SCHIEPATTI MARS BLEU 0.75GR

Maurizio Schiepatti 1.0 gr

2 x SENSAS 'Choppies'

Nice view

Come and get it ......dinner bell soon

Strange start for all as hardly anything shown after an initial 6 balls of SENSAS LAKE /SUPER BLACK . So i went for the Perch and stuck it for a full 30 minutes but only a small Perch and a Daddy Ruffe prevailed. Did have many other movement bites but i think the claws were causing this.

Back onto the pole line fishing 9m ......started to catch small roach , chub , skimmers , biggest about 1oz !! ........Continued then got hit by the first Pike of the day so replace the hook length and back on the Perch for about 10 minutes ...... nothing . Just gone 11:45 so back onto the silvers attack and four more Pike attacks .
Got to about 2:00pm and tried the Perch line again feeding heavy into one area and a little an another , gave it 20 minutes , nothing . Back on the silvers and eventually ended up with 118 and brought the fish closer 7 metres.

S.Hurst with 4-4

Alan Wright with 4-11 and winner of the section

Simon Ryan with a Billy i wanted , 3-4

Ross lost an expected Tench . 2-13

Soaking wet as the rain gods poured down at the final whistle and i had to help scale the section with Ross.

3-11

Scores on the doors !

THIS WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH :

I caught 2 Smelt (must be really rare) and took this picture which i have sent on to the Environmental Agency to tell them this great news that another species of fish exists in the Soar ! So i sent the mail and this replied , are you ready ? :

Hello EA .....Fishing a match at Sutton Bonnington today and i caught two of these , which appear to be Smelt ! I did not smell them as they are supposed to give of a cucumber odour . I have caught them before in Sweden.

Environment Agency Hi Phil, to fish for smelt or lamprey you need authorisation from us. You can contact us on 03708 506 506 and we can email the fish movements team to request authorisation.Eileen

    PMSL !

I have every confidence that the EA is attuned to angling thinking .............Not !

2015 - Greenhill AC - Chairmans Cup Sunday August the 16th

Well , Sunday morning with a lay in as this match is scheduled for 12 draw fishing 1-6 . So a quick load into the car and i am away to the Chairmans cup competition on our Thurlaston moat part of the lake complex.

Car loaded ......... lets go !

TEAM-MASgroundbait is in , thats 160 kilos of SENSAS 3000 Super Black and 3000 Lake

Pegs were drawn and the Golden peg was announced also ......peg 4 ......thats what i drew but i knew i am up against it as fancied pegs 6, 7, 8 also 2 and 15 had good anglers on them ....... this is a tough match !
Bob on peg 12 took two nice Chub and some bits

The match turned out to be a day of strange results as peg 15 DNWI as it was flyer last year and this year as i won both times but strangely with Dean on it , it did not produce !

Chris has a nice net with Golden Tench to note of peg 9

John on peg 8 with 10-9 , his first weight for 5 weeks since his accident .

Andy 'John Wayne' was third on peg 8 with 9-11

Brian Hull , Mr Loughborough AC , manager , director ,organiser , tireless worker with a good catch of 5lb + , started really well but when his no6 joint broke it seemed to upset his rhythm .

Peg 4 on the golden with 14-10 , with three small vermin carp and a good Tench plus plenty of dogs and a first , my third of the year in all competitions (would swap them anytime for a good weight on the Soar )

58 fish in total
