When Ashpole was full of fish like Crucians , Tench Rudd and Roach

Days on the Trent

Sometimes after a morning match at Rothley we would pack up the car and drive to the Trent at Thrumpton on the Coventry DAA book. I would use up the bait from the morning and catch well on hemp and Tares.

My eldest Sarah learning well

Tony Potter with a Dogius Roachious - Rutilus rutilus

Greg Gammage with great catch of chub on the trotted meat

Tony also with good chub and roach

The fishing was insane as we caught mostly at the back of the keep nets !! either using tare or meat

Dog

In the sun all 3 of us standing just smashing the strikes into them

A few times we fished there . One night myself and Greg travelled from the car park with a trolley and all our gear , tilley lamp , food , drink etc..

It was pitch black and we could hardly see where we were going then we came up to a wire fence which i touched with my leg and i got a shock so we decided to go under it carefully - eventually we got to the shingle bank where we would spend the night on .

Next day after great fishing we returned to the car park only to notice we had gone under the wire fence protecting a cricket square / pitch from grazing sheep !  - bloody idiots we were !!

Very sad when Greg passed on

Proper stick float days

The famous Section 1 at Thrumpton where Stu Killen caught a record weight of Barbel from
