2024 - March 28th - Trosa - Have the fish arrived ?

Over the years i have had many huge nets of fish at this East coast Mecca . The window of opportunity for these times of catching so many fish is small so you must take up the chance . The area is full of boats and by summer time there is no room to fish as Trosa becomes a holiday and day-visit destination so you could have lots of people walking over your kit and arguments with boat owners. The only place to really fish undisturbed are out on the point of the canal and further upstream to the fish pass , very limited for the money really but those days of total bagging are worth the membership fee (But it could be improved !?)

This time of year Trosa is fairly quiet but the weekend ahead is the Easter one so to take this opportunity now as the town will be very busy though this period.

My office was set up ready , so lets get some bagging done !!

Tools for the day was a feeder rod and and a pole set up

As you can see at 10:00 AM there is sparse activity in the town so you have the fishing to yourself 👍👍👍👍👍

My pole target area is where the river starts to back up and go opposite to the main left to right flow

The way out to the sea , i see no fishing allowed there anymore according to the signage 😖😒

First report

Lunch time

Well , what a start ! I fished feeder for the first 30 minutes half way across and my tip was bouncing incessantly as so many fish on the bottom swimming over the line but none would take the bait !?!?!?

So after feeding three balls at 11m in my target area i went in on the pole , 9 fish in 9 put-ins !!

I decided to take a bite to eat and coffee then continued to catch until a boat arrived that wanted my position on the boards 😟😐

Ide making an appearance

Good size Roach also

After getting moved  😔 i settled in a new position after a 10 minute removals job and was ready again

Back in business and fishing at 9m  in a very nice steady flow Right to Left

Bingo - first put-in , best skimmer of the day about a kilo

Roach a plenty kept coming

Ide kept coming , in fact for a 15minute spell i had 8 of them that took over the swim as they are dominant for the food .

MY REASON TO TAKE A YEARS MEMBERSHIP CARD WITH TROSA

The reason i take a years card with Trosa is because of this guy (picture below) and others like him who give their time to making sure the fishing in this town and surrounding areas is done with respect to the fish population. Passi and fellow bailiffs keep check on the validity of the anglers coming to fish in this picturesque town.

On this day i encountered three anglers (Polish) , 2 were fishing and one was looking and helping take the fish from net to car . Since the river was saturated with Bream then throwing a lure into the water then they were being foul-hooked repeatedly. After 30 minutes these three non-anglers took 11 Bream and the fish were mostly held to the deck with their feet and lures wrenched out , sometimes . The fish were never despatched and could be seen moving in the bags on the bank and in the back of the car .
It was at this point my blood was boiling so i challenged them and said you have caught too many and you must not treat fish like that ! I then said have you got a fishing licence (Fiske- Kort) which they replied , yes , 'he has one' ? Yeah right , they are filthy liars and trying to spin a tale to me . So i made out i was on my mobile and asking for bailiffs to come here immediately , in a minute they were gone ! (fortunately Passi was in the area 😆)

It was about an hour later that head bailiff Passi turned up and verified my licence and i explained to him what went on . He went away and was back an hour later and confirmed he had sent away three Polish speaking scum at the fish pass in the town threatening them that he would take their equipment if caught again as they failed to produce any documentation to support their legitimacy in fishing .

NOTE : I am not racist and i know a few Polish people however there are many other nationalities over here equally as bad. It just happens to be today three men were Polish.

Since Passi and associative bailiffs came on the scene my confidence in proper fishing practices has risen with this Trosa fishing club as he and others have really watched out against the fish-rapists that can exist there.

TOP BLOKE - Passi

Met a great young guy called Elias , he has caught many good specimens himself - watch out for him and i hope to publish some of his fishing exploits.

Now for a weigh in (but no scales ?) Estimation is best

I work out in the gym and i struggled a little to haul the net up out of the water . (This Keep net is a carp class net which does not harm the fishes bodies as the net is soft and very wet so the fish are not in direct contact with the boards)

Insane fishing , the way i like it - CATCH FOR FUN and RESPECT THE FISH
(However i do like to eat Perch and Zander sometimes i catch)

View of half way down the net - All fish returned and ALL THEIR HEADS WERE INTACT AND IN THEIR NORMAL POSITIONS , LOOKING FORWARDS AND NOT ANGLED UPWARDS  ................every fish a SWIMMER !!

If only Trosa would allow matches after September 14th like it used to be several years ago ? they are missing out on good fishing promotion.

Shame TROSA FISHING CLUB have to run their annual KILL MATCH where they BREAK THE HEADS OF FISH and last year was 125 KILOS of broken fish which makes a mockery of anglers taking so many fish like today , so what is the difference between ;

BAD ANGLERS TAKING LOTS OF FISH OVER THE LIMIT AND TROSA HAVING AN ANNUAL KILL MATCH ? ..........PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE LOGIC ?

TROSA can you answer about the annual Fish Kill match ? :
 - Where do the dead fish go after the KILL MATCH ? (Garden fertiliser , many fat cats locally ?)
 - Why run a match that takes away ex.125 kilos of fish that ordinary anglers then cannot fish for ?
 - Why have you not modernised angling to take away this 'cave-man' fishing.

2024 - March 24th - Ivan MARKS memorial match - Wigston AC controlled GUC at Glen Parva - Mick Carr report

Every year the Wigston AC hold the IVAN MARKS memorial match on the GUC at Glen Parva/ South Wigston . This a must go to match in the events calendar and its not the fishing that counts its the event for the Great man.

IVAN the Great - Peoples champion

Start of the day at the Manor Restaurant for the breakfast .The lads diving in for Tea and Coffee

Short drive to the Crow Mills car park heavily populated by todays expectants

My draw was peg 28 on the Crow Mills near to the very attractive fun station ( i dont think they serve beer though ?)

The match started and i place my usual food patterns to set the trap for the expected fish haul . After a few different areas i decided to keep to far shelf and take any pair of eyes going as i amassed so many fish ( i did not count them) .

I managed to win my section with 1-14 so happy days .

7th on the day against a class field

Back to the HQ and beer was the order of the day as we say down ready for the results service

Top man Dave Mellors

The Yellow-Peril

First time a joint winner and so good friends Steve Brookes and Matt Hodgetts take (share) the honours.

My congratulations to Adam and John and the Team at WIGSTON AC who never fail to create a great day.

2024 - March 14th - SODERTALJE CANAL practice with friend Borko - The fish are not there (or not feeding yet)

A break in the cold weather allowed for a chance to cast a line on the water now that those nuisance ice flows have all but dissipated. I met with good friend Borko and we fished in the preferred pegs we mostly fish at during the course of the year.

I decided to go feeder all day however i did take my poles with me just in case the fish fed on the feeder line then i would have a chance of catching by float , well that was the theory.

I decided on casting out a few times to 'feel' the bottom and i must have cast 5-6 times and all appeared ok. So i clipped up at approx. 40metres and i had a drop of 13-15 seconds approx. I then set up a further rod shorter by at least 10 metres and i gained a drop of 9-11 seconds. So my plan was ready , all i need is some fish so using a larger feeder with fine groundbait and few offerings i cast 2 amounts on each feeder line - the trap was set ! ummm 😑

I decided to go light on both rods so an 18's hook was on both with 70 cm lengths of 0.10 line .

GO TIP GO , TIP-GO , GO TIP GO (A quote from Tom Ostland )

Weather was not too bad but a cool keen wind left to right kept your head covered up

View to the right and as you can see its a long pathway that could easily place 20 more anglers. Yes , trolley for some but its all on the flat so no hills to push up.

Looking towards town where another 4-6 pegs could be placed possibly

The parking is good , room for 20 cars on the ticket ( Saturday you are charged and Sunday is normally free) Cafe nearby is normally open from Påsk till October so refreshments and snacks can be purchased.

As you can see in the water the bottom is very stoney so ideal for sitting out on a platform from the bank . Its ideal really as with the feeder your line will be settling on various contours on the bottom especially with some depths you are casting out to are between 6-10 metres so a bit further out helps that angle . (i suppose to miss those features on the bottom its best to cast quite far out ?)

As yet not sure if we should allow that as some pegs are slightly deeper just off the bank so an angler could have a disadvantage but we shall review this closer to the time . Also to consider the time of year when colder whether anglers want to have waders on ?

Nothing caught so we wait for another day

Later in the year the plan is to run at least three matches - so far we plan to use Reel only so that can include Bolo , Slider and Feeder but we might just go feeder only .

2024 - SODERTALJE CANAL + TROSA - Nothing, Ingenting, Ingen Poeng , F**k all !

With some time on my hands i decided to meet up with Borko on my local canal. Previous to this the canal was looking reasonably clear of ice however last nights -6 put paid to this as i visited it in the morning and my head dropped 😖 when i saw the site of all over ice , again !!! 😡

I said to Borko that we should try Trosa as it should be virtually free of ice . I was there before Borko and set up with just one feeder rod . On the far side was Stefan Johansson .

Water was up a lot and running hard as the melting snow and ice of the fields.

Borko arrived and set up like me with just one feeder rod

We tried for a good 2 hours but nothing happened an that included Stefan on the far side.

We all put the kit away and viewed the river just out of town as this was all new to Borko
