2020 - CHARNWOOD LEAGUE canal practice on Hawes and Albion - 26th July

Paul Greensmith and Stu Timson of the Charnwood Committee had another practice open match on the canal in readiness for the start of the League . This time it took place on the Hawes and Albion sections which is excellent parking and a very easy walk.
Peg 95 was given to myself and i was told it had been a flier in recent years results ........no pressure then !

Great looking peg in between two moored barges

It was like being on an end peg with the two free pegs either side

Rigs of choice

What a strange day !! .........Placed a ball of sweet fishmeal at 2+3 . Places 3 SENSAS Lake and HINDERS Canal balls at 2+1 . First hour was great as a procession of good skimmer and Perch came my way .....then 11:00am , SWITCHED OFF !!!...........then it really became hard as i reckon i had 3lb in first hour now its time to organise the rigs differently and find some eyes .
As much as i tried i could not put together any amount of back to back catching . Did i screw the peg ? was i feeding too much ? Tried caster and hemp and only a few turned up . Tried Pinkie and only a few turned up .........it did my head in as i could not understand why it was not fishing ............yet later on the results came in with exceptional weights . If anything i learn from today is i must bring my glasses with me as hemp got better fish .

When analysing the results i can see how far i am behind the rest of the field but respectfully the match was really good as many people were in the 5-12lb bracket catch return .

Strange day however that is canal fishing ............you have to adapt and take advantage of pegs that have good quantity of fish .
