2019 - September 14th DIVISION 2 National with the MAS team and a days viewing on MAS rod Paul Middleton

The BIG day finally arrived and after the teams continuous practice open matches in the months before then a true test of their endeavours was about to be realised . Our Captain , Dean Cherrington led his team from the front spending hours on phone calls and booking and organising all the matches upto this date , all we needed now was a draw ! The draw was made aided by a lucky charm of the medusa touch Paul ' End-peg' Middleton. In fact i sat with him all day as he loaded his kit into my car  as we went searching for 'C' section. Whilst there i recorded a few movies as they day unfolded

Paul and i travelled down narrow lanes and eventually mades it to Section C

11:00 AM and match commenced

Paul potted at 4m and far side at 11m , also potted down stream to the bridge in middle or maybe closer to far shelf.

First man at the other section was Jonathan Leivers who fished a tidy match

Dumpy Perch and gudgeon were the weigh builders

Most barges were well behaved however some of them accelerated thro the bridge and their propeller really disturbed the peg , too much . One barge for some silly reason went over to the far side possibly scraping its hull on the bottom as it excited the bridge .

Half way through and the fishing got harder

I met the owners of this barge and enjoyed several conversations - they even offered cups of tea to the anglers !

This barge was well behaved with just a trickle behind it

Weigh in time for our section and Paul has lost out buy 180 grams - that barge thro his squat peg cost dearly ! However a 3rd in section is not bad at all


Ummmmm .......... next section a long , do i see micro pellets in a clear bag ??? ...... were they not barred for today ?

It has been a fantastic experience to have a team represent MAS for the first time , must do it again . Well done to David Gough who finished 40th out of over 400 anglers  . Shame the team did not have more luck on the draw , it could have been so different .

2019 - August bank Holiday river event at EVESHAM (23rd to 25th)

Evesham the only place to be at the end of the summer when the country finest anglers meet fo competition over 3 days . The days are complimented by all the retails stalls that donate Crown Meadow so all the visitors can pick up a bargain or two .
The event is again well supported by Paul Boothby , Rod Scott, Sean Ashby and howard Kaye and without their efforts this show would die but we will not allow that . In 2018 the lads rescued and presented a great show , this year its got bigger and the attendances are well up . Free entry and just a car park fee of just £7 , no complaints with that !


MIDLANDS ANGLING SUPPLIES arrived there on the friday as we work closely with Italian giant TRABUCCO run by Bill Morris . So we shared a stall inside and outside . Bill had top rod Jake King and England Sea International Joe Cook helping out on the stalls .

2019 - 1st September - Practice match on the rivers section for the Charnwood league

Our 3rd practice match on the Charnwood match lengths and the Deeps was our selection which included part of the Cobbles . Eighteen piscatorials attended as we took the draw in McDonalds at Shelthorpe (Note our HQ for the Charnwood league is the Barrow Town FC )
We split the match length into 3 sections on Deeps and one on the Cobbles . (For the Charnwood it will be 2 sections of 9 on Deeps and possibly the Cobbles , with Greens )



A very sunny day greeted the match and with gin clear water we expected a tough match with a swell of opinion the Cobbles would fish the best being shallower and faster ...........were we correct in our thoughts ?

Anyway i drew peg 20 and on peg 21 the CEO of BENNETTS TACKLE (BROWNING) Stu Timson.
match underway and the both of us fed similar at 9 and 13 metres by pole cup . I also fed a choppy line and went onto it immediately and had 2 quick 3oz Perch . Stu took a handsome skimmer /hybrid , i think he said . After 20 minutes i went on the 9m line to catch steady throughout the match.

Good turnout however it gets serious on the 15th September when the full compliment of teams take part of the new formatted Charnwood league created by Paul Greensmith where canal and river are used and fair match lengths with reasonable equidistant peg spacings are set.

There is a meeting on the 5th September  of all the captains and representatives to finalise all the details . Looking forward to seeing you in a new spirit of a league with fairness and equal competition .
