2016 - IRISH TRIP - FANTASTIC !

My best mate for 51 years Michael Carr and myself decided to go for a week's fishing in Ireland . There ,  we are to stay at the ANGLERS REST Ballyconnell and fish several different waters to get a taste of what we shall do more of over the coming years.

The 5th of June was 'kit' day

Before

After

The back of the car was rammed but it left a little room to see out the back off.

On 6th of June we set on our way from Leicester to Holyhead arriving early and we decided to breakfast in Llandudno .

We even found time to walk the pier

We arrived at the ferry port early and were first in queue

Mick could smell the Guiness

............ and he was rewarded when we boarded

I had one also

Soon be there

Dublin here we are and time to get driving

First day we fished Killy keen and the mix was on

Reasonable 14lb considering the fishing was not good

Hybrids (related to Trout)

That night we were tempted by Francis McGoldricks huge steaks ......I had to use a full bottle of red wine to ease it down.

MAS rod David Herron played it safe with a chicken curry

No!! ....... no ,  i cant eat any more !

Next day Francis took us out to Trinity ........the day of the shell fish bites !!!!!?

Not so good for Mick and i as we were pestered by bites from shell fish , we both had half a dozen a piece !!

Next day Francis put ius on the mark and we enjoyed double figures

To the last day and Muckno was advised so we took a 1hr 15mins journey to this mecca , we are not disappointed .

Dave put us on pegs 76/77

Back at Ballyconnell for the last night and the people were so warm

Fabulous time and WE WILL BE BACK !

MATTHEW POWELL REPORT :

Sorry it's a bit late boys but this is what happened on Sunday ☺️
Drew 171 on the canal and didn't really no what to expect as that part of the canal can throw up some tench and skimmers but they only shown on the end two pegs :/ anyway,
I've fish two lines down the far shelf with squat over GB :)
Started off in the fish hour alternating between these two lines and put 46 fish in the net, until it dried up so I put another ball on each and went on my worm and caster line right across with no bites

Luckily I had a track line with worm and caster but that only produced three small perch so went back down the far shelf and I've had about 18 fish between the two lines for 2lb 3oz 6grms, which was second in my 7 men,
Fed too much down the far shelf :/ lesson learnt can't wait for the next time I'm on it 👍🏻

2016 - GREENHILL ANGLING CLUB sponsored by Midlands Angling Supplies - Ashpole , Cosby 15th May

Had not been out pole fishing since the WAC match on the GUC Glen Parva for the Ivan Marks memorial match . Decided to meet up with MAS anglers John Kilby and Andy Porter for a mornings fishing. The morning was cold which has been fairly typical in recent weeks however the sun was promised and it did deliver. The late afternoon brought more cloud cover and the fishing was better.

Peg 26 was my choice as i have experienced some great weights on a 100b from the peg before.

Sunday lunch for the fishes

I started to catch small roach/rudd from the off and loads of Perch but the constant changing sun in and out kept the fish wanting to not feed.

The days finest fish amounted to 4 Chub and 5 Tench which amounted to about 20lb+ with the silvers it got close to 25lb. Not a brilliant catch by Ashpole standards but its getting there , we just need consistent warm weather .

Two chublettes

 Tinca tincas

The big one must have been close to 5lb

Quality Roach to 1lb

Caught at all depths to amass a reasonable weight .......it can only get better !
