2013 TROSA APRIL 20TH - HAVE THE FISH ARRIVED ?

I decided to fish Trosa with Percy , Hasse and junior with our new member Jimmy . I had previously briefly tried to fish Trosa the week before without any luck and was fishing water a metre lower than normal.
The morning started with cold as the car shows only 2 degrees and i had a frozen windscreen so that was not good.! When i arrived and met the Trosa-onians a decision was made to fish the quieter water away from the influence of the melting snow water . It was also noticeable that the water was higher as the water levels in the Baltic were equalizing to a normal seasonable level.

The sun was particularly bright and kept you warm on a sharp breezy and slightly cold morning . I set up a DINO Carassi Lungo 0.75gr and a DINO Bream Long 0.5gr in just 1.5 metre of water.

Groundbait choice of the day was 0.5 bag of SUPERCUP with a bag of SECRET CLASSIC and some dead pinkie and maggot.

Jimmy , Hasse and Percy to my right . These pegs are okay for TAP as the local population have less chance of walking onto your kit.

Well ! after about an hour and a half we were all fishless be it very pleasant sun in our faces . We then collectively decided to give the 'main stream' a go . So we spent the next 30 minutes moving our gear some 25 metres behind us and find a suitable fishing position inbetween the boats.

Jimmy did another hard mix and placed several samples into the hard flowing stream.

I put out the Feeder rod and fished it hard for 45 minutes without a knock on the tip !!

I also had a 7metre CASINI Bolo set up with a 12gram Cosmos DINO .

We all met again after a hard fought 1 hour we spoke about giving it a last hour before admitting defeat and taking the journey home.

I got back and decided to start throwing regular balls of groundbait/leam with plenty of dead maggot in  ...then to my surprise a fish !! ....nice roach of about 200grams quickly followed by another , is this the start ?

Jimmy to me left also hooked into a fish which happened to be a big ide but was lost at the net.

Then i had an ide

Jimmy started to get fish and took a small Bjorkna and a roach.

and again for Jimmy with a better sample......a skimmer bream

Nice reward for Jimmy's persistance.

The season has started , at last , they are here , think in another week you could have 50 to 80 kilos in a 5 hour session there .

I WILL BE BACK !!

2013 - Johan Tikanen

Johan Tikanen has rounded of a superb 2012 by being awarded the 'LOCAL HERO' prize for his devotion to the sport of angling. This comes as no surprise to most of us as he has consistently found tremendous enthusiasm to organise events like the Fyrisan river series and the Arbogan weekend competition. A very popular and sociable man always on the angling venues who will always talk to you and pass on advice.
We at the MAU fishing club are united in our applauding this award to someone who deserves it so much .

The award logo from the Metetorget .

The award was originated by Benni Steffanuti who runs the Metetorget website for Swedish angling .

The winner :

The man the backbone of angling and MAU club ......well done again Johan , richly deserved !

2012 - 2013 NY eve NY day Sodertalje kanal

With the mild weather coming in the snow was quickly melting and the kanal was looking very attractive for a few hours fishing  - so New Years Eve i decided to try it .

Did not fish as i thought the cold damp air would cut me in two so i decided to look at the possibility of fishing the New years day as long as i did not drink too much !

Shame i had no fish or bites but it was a pleasant few hours....... be back again soon !

2012 - Stockholm MAU Xmas meeting 27th Dec.

We met for our annual Xmas get together at the QueensHead pub  and completed the official club news in 5 minutes then spent the rest of the evening ........drinking fine ales . (Thanks Johan)
We had Mats come along as he was taking his Xmas break with his family from his work in the USA , it was great to see him again , be it about 5 kilos heavier from all the Burgers and fries ! Johan was his usual self laughing and being productive in his fishing thoughts. My Carola came along for the day as we completed a little shopping before arriving . Tim and Erik were unavailable but we will catch up with them in the new year on the bank for sure .

Phew ! .....i have had a drink and eat Xmas of large proportions , must be 5 kilos heavier , time to hit the WCGym !

Johan , in his very own way decided to donate to the club a glass dish as a prize for the 'Outstanding achievement award' of this year. , a beautiful hand crafted prize was given to me , i accepted humbly .

Along with the award came a certificate of recognition , again i was humbled.

Not only a glass plate and a certificate but also a 'Horlicks' tub , the best sticky-mag powder you can use .

Amusing but delivered with a nice touch from one of the most genuine fishing organisers in Sweden today. He is often considered outspoken but has so much to talk about in the fishing circles . His enthusiasm is infectious and his thoughts are of only for the good of Swedish angling . Johan Tikanen is a rarity in this country as his zeal and zest for the sport is for the greater good of the sport ! I thank him very much and its been an honour to work and fish with him . A very genuine bloke !

If we had another 20 angler/organisers like Tikanen then we might have another few thousand extra match anglers in this country's very limited match angling theatre.
.......just my thoughts !

I only have another year in the Swedish angling circles before leaving for England to live again and of course enjoy the match fishing which is so unique to the English way. My heart is with the MAU and will always remain with them and i will still in the future come to Sweden to fish occasionally. The MAU men also know that i have loads of spare gear in UK and they are always welcome to come and stop with us and 'fish a match a day'   :-)
