2025 - January 28th - Sodertalje Canal - Stefan feeder fishing

Received a message from Stefan at about 10:00am that he was fishing the Sodertalje canal near me - a visit took place hearing that news......

When i arrived he was already in 1hr 15 mins and on 45 fish (on the clicker)

Out of the mist the dredging boat was depositing

Stefans hands getting cold so he took a talking break with me for 30 minutes then back into bagging more fish and when i left he was on 61 fish (mostly roach with 2 small Bjorkna)

2025 - January 26th - Trosa

I decided to visit Trosa as the weather was clear and fishable in 3-4 degrees . When arrived at 08:30am the wind was on my back so comfortable. I had all my normal match and predator gear with me so i started on the drop-shot .

Started here and second cast i was stuck ! i freed up but i lost my drop shot weight 😞 Moved to the corner and persisted for at least 45 minutes .........but nothing !

While on the corner i found two lots of discarded braid - i then bagged it up ready for disposing properly when i got home . 

Advise to anglers who discard line and braid - PLEASE take it home and cut it into small pieces as animals and birds could accidentally get entangled - PLEASE !

Took a break and ate a few Pizza pieces with coffee and i never saw anyone catch a fish and i reckon i had seen 20 plus anglers today and not heard of any catches !

On the bright side , the sun attended to warm us up a little 

I met Daniel a Romanian guy and we talked endlessly about fishing , politics etc ..... We both decided to move upstream to the weir .

No takes for Daniel and i did not bother to fish .

We met Pasi earlier the AFK TROSA bailiff and he remarked that he had not seen any fish catches which was strange as the river looked in good condition . It was a really blank day which can happen at Trosa , some days this time of year the fish can be there and others days we are mystified where they are ? Thats fishing !

2025 - Getting prepared for the coming season - January 23rd

Soon the season will be upon us and preparations are starting in earnest. With more feeder matches available i decided to get myself geared up with a series of feeder rods , especially the MATRIX brand . So i have rods for strong rivers and deep canals and Lakes. Best purchases are through METMASK.

2025 - January 14th and 19th January - Trosa

 Tuesday 14th January

My first fishing outing of 2025 and i made my customary visit to Trosa and not really expecting to catch using my match tactics so i expect to cast several times on Jig and Drop-shot and cross fingers i get a fish. Recent form suggested many fish were in from the premier start of the season and receiving some great catch pictures from Pasi the Head bailiff with a large Perch of 1.650gr and 47cm long ...... that is a brute of a fish!

I moved into the town opposite the Bohmans Hotel and the ice flow prevented many from fishing so the other side was best to fish from.

Renovation on the walk-way looks like a good job - Summer time it will be crowded with boats

So my first day was fish less , again, which i expected, however undaunted i shall be back 💪✌✊👍

Sunday 19th January

Having picked up a few tips from anglers on my last visit i decided to change my spools over to braid and try a few different things on my drop shot weights as well as getting my jig set up better , so i thought !?

I arrived at about 08:15 and already there was several anglers fishing . I decided to fish next to the fishing boat and work my way further into the town . I had a serious pull on my drop shot rod , missed bite or some obstacle in the water ? I will never know. The morning was predictably cold so gloves were required as a keen facing wind was gaining speed against our side of the river.

The ice on the other side was thinning out so this bodes well if i can get a time to go there in the week and fish my conventional way

About 10:15am Pasi arrived checking everyone for their fishing tickets , he knew everyone so his task was made easier . However since he arrived with the TROSA AFK the standard of fishing and the fishermen has improved immensely over the last few years and its so refreshing to see so many responsible anglers there , respecting the nature and the fish they catch . However there is a CATCH and RELEASE program just now and the club shows no sign of losing membership as Pasi informed me of a huge increase in ticket sales .....truly great news , this club through his persistence has now gained a respect and thats why anglers come here to fish.

It was about 10:45 am that i decided to give it up as clearly i was not going to get any fish yet there was a few anglers gaining a few takes but the fish appeared to be in a ball and those that could cast there were getting indications , mostly very small Perch.
